The benefits of air duct cleaning:

Considering most people spend 60 to 90% of their time indoors, and children breathe 50% more air per pound then adults, the indoor air quality in your home or business should be a major factor in your family’s health and safety. As time goes on, your air ducts and vents collect dust, mold, vermin, rodents insects, dander, pollen, dirt, and other debris that can clog your ventilation system and prevent air from flowing freely. When moisture is present, the potential for bacteria, fungus, and mold increases and spores from such growth may be released into the home’s living space.

While you may not feel direct effects of it, aside from allergies, the build-up in your ducts can be detrimental to you and loved ones. Higher electricity bills are one result of your HVAC system having to work harder to maintain a desired temperature. Safety hazards and larger health issues can result from harboring these contaminants, and could cause serious problems for people with respiratory health conditions, autoimmune disorders and some environmental allergies.

WARNING SIGNS

According to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), in an average six-room home, up to 40 pounds of dust is created annually through everyday living. 40,000 dust mites can thrive in only one ounce of dust, and dust “bunnies” contain a host of unhealthy bacteria, fungi and mold. The EPA estimates indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Even worse, the contaminants are pulled into the HVAC system and re-circulated 5 to 7 times per day, on average. Over time, this re-circulation causes a build-up of contaminants in the ducts.

REGULAR CLEANINGS

The National Fire Protection Agency reported an estimated 16,800 homes fires in 2010 ,92% of those involved clothing dryers. Even if the lint trap is cleaned after every load, 40% of the small bits of cloth and lint get past the trap and end up in your vent. Damp clumps build up over time and sit in your vent with nowhere else to go. This is a fire hazard because the lint is very flammable and can ignite, often sparking fires in confined areas of your home that make it harder for smoke and sprinkler systems to detect.

DuctMasters will help you avoid parts breaking down and risking carbon monoxide poisoning with a little routine maintenance. Regular cleanings help extend the life of your dryer and reduce drying time, thus reducing energy costs.
